Somalia Pirates in little white boats are holding the world hostage. The 1,500 polite and heavily armed rag-tag pirates without a real Government of their own see big ships loaded with rich stuff in their waters in the Golf of Aden, so they went and stopped them and it just happened that one was full of battle tanks and another full of oil? The pirates are a problem but the fact that they found a ship full of battle tanks brings to our attention the reality that weapons are available to countries in Africa that can pay for them despite all the bigger issues like starvation. They are between life and death so who will stop them ? All the pirates want is cash as booty it seems from the panicked shipping industry. The pirates are not bandits in their perspective, they say they are an informal coast guard protecting their seas from illegal fishing and toxic wastes being dumped into their oceans. Huge Asian and European factory fishing trawlers floated thru and sucked up all their tuna and fish. There are stories that these fishing fleets were agressive towards the native fisherman because they were a form of fishing competition. Somali fisherman have become polite vigilantes stopping illegal fishing boats who steal their fish. The pirated fisherman just want fine money to protect themselfs from hunger in a climate of conflict and ongoing anarchy. But maybe greed turned the original protect our seas idea into a business and now there are thousands of pirates trying to just get ahead and live the rich life. Piracy might be viewed as socially acceptable in Somalia because the volumns of cash keep the pirates social bonds tight. The pirates operate with an informal honor system called hawala in business dealings. The pirates work as a large informal group who work towards pure group survival with a high degree of entrepreneurialism. Pirates arrr here in the West are viewed with a pop-cult obsession in the world of skullduggery and wild west thinking. Pirates are popular and with real pirates being pirates the romantic image might fade in popular culture. If this pirate problem in Somalia is rooted in fishing then everyone who has eaten a tuna sandwitch or had a raw tuna on sushi is responsible for this problem. The reason I created this video was to think about these Pirates and ask what has gone wrong with the rest of us. The idea that pirates in little white boats that can capture big boats is an interesting notion. For some reason I thought that you needed big boats to capture big boats protrayed in the movies. The pirates are shooting bullet skulls which symbolize death. Death by starvation seems to be the big motivator behind these pirate actions. The battle ships that zip through the frame are looking for the pirates who are bigger than life now and also manage to escape the high technology Navy in a big ocean. Even the supertanker that goes thru the frame over and over is a smaller idea than the pirate ideas of getting rich from these big dream activities. This entire drama really speaks of wider issues in our global landscape. The dream of getting rich has a powerful draw for 100 million people in poverty because food prices went up. They would probably be viewed differently by the entire world if the let all the people who are prisoners go. Western jurisprudence and Somalia Pirates could actually make them peace keepers if they know it or not. The logo that is spinning around in the right hand corner is symbolic of the Somalia Islamic courts. The symbol has two meanings, "There is no god but Allah" and "Mohammed is his messenger". So who are the real Pirates here ? What a complex social political and moral mess this has turned out to be. The real losers are the beautiful tuna and fish who do not have a voice in any of these activitys. There are to many humans eating up everything. Someday the only meat left to eat will be rat burgers with grasshopper dressing.

Chapter 100 of the Holy Qur'an - Sura 'Al-'Adiyat', meaning 'Those Who Run'. PREFACE The sura begins with the imagery of raiders on horseback, who come to take what is not theirs rightfully. The Qur'an, whose eternal message takes the form of imagery in the day and tongue of the Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w), gives a picture of greedy men; that of the invading army in search of booty. It can be understood even now that such a hoard is an ideal example of worldliness and shirk (sin in Islam). The image is of people who are willing to hurt their fellow man over objects and lust. The Qur'an continues, that humankind is evidence against themself of these sins and people will be judged accordingly by what their hearts intended in life. The Qur'an concludes this sura with the reminder that as men are fully aware of what they are doing and why, God is even more aware - what is hidden in men's hearts. RELATED HADITH On the virtue of reciting this Sura, Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w) is narrated to have said: "He who recites this Sura will be rewarded ten good deeds as many as the number of the people who stay at Muzdalafah (Mash'ar, Sacred Monument) and gather witnessing it." [Majma'-al-Bayan, vol. 10, p. 527] Another tradition from Imam Sadiq (p.b.u.h.) says: "He who recites Sura 'Adiyat and continues reciting it Allah will raise him up with Amir-al-Mo'mineen (Ali, a.s) on Doomsday and he will be with him (a.s.) and his companions." [Ibid] Some narrations denote that the virtue of reciting this Sura is as much as the virtue of reciting half of the Qur'an. [Durr-al-Manthur, vol. 6, p. 383]
