In response to donexodus2's video Faith and Evolution, I'm putting up this paraphrase of an excellent article by Isaac Asimov on "The Relativity of Wrong", The Skeptical Inquirer, Vol. 14 No. 1, p. 35-44 Fall 1989. I hope it sparks some thoughts. Liszt wrote the work in 1841 and published a two-piano version (S/G656) in 1877. The two-piano version bears a structurally strong resemblance to the original. The work begins with music sung by the Commendatore, from the graveyard scene where he threatens Don Giovanni ("Di rider finirai pria dell aurora! Ribaldo audace! Lascia a' morti la pace!" — Your laughter will not last, even till morning. Remember, that the dead still remember!) and from the finale where he condemns Don Giovanni to hell. The love duet of Don Giovanni and Zerlina follows ("La ci darem la mano"), along with two variations on this theme. Many didn't like the kinda pissy tone of the original video (although notably also many thought the bitchslap was well deserved!). Well yes, but I really just see that as a fairly predictable response when pogobat, aka Dan Brown just put out a video to some 200k subscriber basically pissing on, and badmouthing university education. To paraphrase: 'It was getting in the way of my education' 'just about learning lots of facts' -How would you have expected me to respond? Well anyway, this is the response after taking a deep breath and counting to ten... well actually a lot more than 10!. Dan seems to have changed his tone somewhat. Apparently he's offended that I insulted his parents(?)... yup I was like WTF too... apparently he couldn't tell the difference between 'get a parrot' and 'get a parent' (hearing fail?). He also seems to have 'fled the field' so to speak in that his reply basically entailed his stating that he only wanted to 'stimulate debate' (troll?). This song was written by my good friend, Jennifer Schwirzer. However, I didn't discover that until just a few minutes ago when I read her comment on this video! It's a scripture song paraphrase based on Luke 14:16-24 which I learned from a cassette tape back in the late '80s or early '90s . As I recall, all the songs on the tape were sung a cappella, though I'm not absolutely sure about that. Anyway, it's a pretty good rendering of this particular parable. I hope you will enjoy it.
